Christmas Hampers
The Christmas Hamper program provides food to Salt Spring residents in need during the holiday season. The program has been running for over 10 years, and the need has grown to the point where over 220 hampers are distributed to singles, couples and families with children. All aspects of the service is staffed by a team of over 20 hard working volunteers.

The hampers are stocked with an assortment of nutritious and seasonal foods. Care taken to meet the needs of specific diets whenever possible, including vegetarians.
Assembly and delivery of the hampers is accomplished at the Farmers’ Institute over four hectic days just before Christmas. Hampers are then delivered by volunteer drivers.
Funds and foods are donated by generous contributions from the community. This includes individual donors, contributions from large companies and small businesses on the island including:
- Ganges Village Market
- Thrifty’s
- Salt Spring Roasting Company
- Soya Nova Foods
- SSI Recycling Depot
- Saltspring Freight
Christmas hampers may be requested by contacting Salt Spring Island Community Services between October and the first week of December.
